We understand that teens have a variety of thoughts, feelings, and experiences living in this world and we're open to taking their expressions seriously and in a truthful way- we're not interested in dumbing down or sanitizing the writing we receive. We're interested in publishing teen work in a quality manner while preserving its particular integrity.
But whether teens use their writing to explore the darker realities of life or celebrate the brighter ones, stories or poems, in the end, must convey a message of hope. This is what differentiates Christians from the rest of the world- they have hope. They have hope that Jesus is truly who He says He is, and that He has conquered sin and death and all of the darkness of this world and opened up the gates of Paradise for humanity. So, even admist the struggle, the hope needs to shine through.
What we're not looking for: sentimentalism, apologetics, legalism, preachiness, plainness, recreations of biblical stories or events, themes that focus on drugs/alcohol, stories or poems that end in hopeless situations.

How do I submit my work?

That depends on many factors. The editor will let you know the details.

Will my age and where I'm from be printed along with my name if you publish my work?
Yes; name, age, city and state.
How do I submit my artwork for publication consideration?
Does my artwork have to be specifically "Christian?"
If by that you mean does the subject matter have to be a cross, church, or Jesus, the answer is a confident no; all of life is good and sacred. However, your artwork cannot be profrane, lewd, or unnecessarily violent.
How do I submit my artwork for consideration for one of your stories or poems?
Electronically to writealetheia@gmail.com. Send us a sample of your best artwork. Don't forget to tell us your age. When or if a story comes in that we think will be a good match for your style, we'll contact you to do the artwork.
After I submit my sample artwork, when will I be contacted?
When we receive your sample, we will immediately file it and contact you to let you know we received it. Then, when or if a story comes in to us that we think matches your artistic style, you'll be contacted again for publication details.
If you find a match for my artwork, what happens next?
We'll contact you via email and ask if you're interested in doing the artwork. If you reply Yes, we'll send you the story to read and come up with a piece for it within two weeks. Artwork can be in B&W or Color, but must be done on quality art paper; please do not use copy paper. At some point in the process, you must send us a "preview" via email. When approval has been given, you'll then finalize your artwork and send it to us electronically. We may also publish your artwork on our website.

What kind of photos are you looking for?
B&W photos for our writer's challenges, that can evoke readers to want to write a story or poem about them. Therefore, photos that are mysterious, cause wonder, or beg questions are best.
We're also looking for color nature photos for our feature, "Glory to God for the Beauty of Nature." Please do not submit photos that are washed out by light. The secret to good nature photography is to shoot just before sunrise or just after sunset because the suns rays are not direct and overpowering. As a result, the colors and tones in the natural world become beautiful and enhanced, instead of bright and chalky. Photographers retain full rights for published work. Aletheia Writing Magazine reserves the right to enhance photos via photo software to best meet the needs of our feature.
Please specify what feature you are submitting for in your email.
How should I send my photos?
Electronically to writealetheia@gmail.com. Please put "Photo Submission" in the subject line. Don't forget to tell us your age.
Is there monetary compensation for contributors?
No, but we do give a digital copy of the magazine to contributors to share with friends and family.
